More Info About Our 2023 Speakers

Hubert Lim, PhD
Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Otolaryngology, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
Dr. Lim is a widely-published leader in the neural engineering field, and has been at the forefront of the development and translation of brain-machine interfaces from scientific concept into clinical application. His work has a strong focus on the improvement of invasive and non-invasive neurostimulation approaches for treating unmet medical needs in hearing and other therapeutic areas. Dr. Lim is Associate Professor and Institute for Translational Neuroscience Scholar at the University of Minnesota, United States. Dr. Lim’s expertise complements Neuromod’s focus on developing and advancing non-invasive bimodal neuromodulation for tinnitus.

Hazel Goedhart
Director & Chief Strategist, Tinnitus Hub
Tinnitus Hub is a 100% volunteer based organization. Everyone that volunteers for the company has tinnitus and is passionate about improving the lives of tinnitus patients, and above all promoting the quest for a cure. Tinnitus Hub is an extremely valuable resource for those with tinnitus, as some of their main goals are to help connect patients with each other through an online community where information, support, and advice can be shared, and by educating patients and practitioners by providing objective, reliable information obtained by working with medical professionals, researchers, and other tinnitus organizations.

Dr. Pawel Jastreboff
Founder, Tinnitus Retraining Therapy
Dr. Pawel Jastreboff is the world’s foremost expert on the treatment of tinnitus. His extensive tinnitus research began around the 1980’s:
“In the mid 1980s, while working at Yale University, I created the neurophysiological model of tinnitus, which postulated the involvement of the limbic (emotional) and the autonomic nervous systems in tinnitus, pointing out the crucial role played by the limbic system. As with many basic scientists, I always thought about the possible implementations of my theoretical and experimental work in practice. From this dream came the idea of the implementation of the neurophysiological model of tinnitus in clinical practice, now known as TRT. In 1988, I presented TRT and the neurophysiological model of tinnitus to Dr. Jonathan Hazell and audiologist Jacqui Sheldrake in London. They adopted TRT as the dominant treatment approach to their tinnitus patients at once. Soon after starting to implement TRT it was obvious to them that patients were improving much more rapidly than when they used a program of partial masking and coping strategies.

Ben Thompson, AuD.
Audiologist & Founder, Treble Health
Dr. Ben Thompson, AuD. is an audiologist and tinnitus expert who went on to found Treble Health. He received his Doctor of Audiology (Au.D) degree in 2018 from University of the Pacific in San Francisco, California. Dr. Thompson completed his residency at University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and is a past board member of the California Academy of Audiology (CAA). He received a certificate of competence in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) from Dr. Pawel Jastreboff in 2021. Dr. Jastreboff is the founder of TRT.

Julian Cowan Hill, MA
Author, Psychotherapist
I first developed tinnitus when I was 16. It took me a couple of weeks to realize that it was a noise generated inside my head. By the time I was 34 it had turned into a raging siren that kept me awake and stopped me from holding down a job, and made my life a misery. A friend of the family suggested trying craniosacral therapy. I had never heard of it, but after the first session I felt incredibly slow and relaxed and couldn’t stop laughing. My tinnitus changed and went a bit quieter. Before I knew it I was training as a craniosacral therapist myself and six months later my tinnitus stopped and went quiet for the first time in 33 years.I set up practice as a craniosacral therapist and then went through an awakening of sorts, feeling the more subtle energetic movements inside and around the body.

Tracy Peck Holcomb, AuD.
Audiologist, Treble Health
Dr. Tracy Peck Holcomb is an audiologist who has been providing compassionate and comprehensive care to patients for over 15 years. Her clinical specialty is in the area of tinnitus and hyperacusis management. She has served on several advisory boards for both clinical and academic audiology and has given numerous presentations and lectures on hearing and tinnitus throughout the state of California. Dr. Peck Holcomb received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. She is a Fellow member of the American Tinnitus Association, the American Academy of Audiology and Board Certified by the American Board of Audiology. Dr. Peck Holcomb is a Past President and Board Member of the California Academy of Audiology.

Dr. Edmund Farrar
Co-Founder, OTO
Dr. Farrar developed tinnitus in his mid twenties, eventually leading him and Dr. George Leidig to found OTO. Here is their message “We’ve experienced tinnitus both personally and professionally. We developed tinnitus in our mid twenties. We have both been lucky enough to adjust and habituate, but learning to live with the ringing was tough. Help just wasn’t there when we needed it. It was during our time as doctors in the military that we realized the scale of the problem. We worked with so many young men and women who had been exposed to the loud noises of weapons and aircraft engines, and had severe tinnitus as a result. We felt powerless to help. We built Oto with the aim of helping people with tinnitus, in the same way we’d like to have been helped. Oto allows instant access to science-based support at the touch of a button, and is backed by world leading experts.”

Glenn Schweitzer
Author, Rewiring Tinnitus
Glenn Schweitzer is an entrepreneur, blogger, and the author of Rewiring Tinnitus and Mind over Meniere’s. He is passionate about helping others who suffer from tinnitus and vestibular disorders, and volunteers as an Ambassador Board Member for the Vestibular Disorders Association (VEDA). Through his blogs, he continues to raise awareness for tinnitus, Meniere’s disease, and other vestibular disorders, spreading his message of hope to those in need.

Michelle Neidleman Kennedy, AuD
Audiologist, Treble Health

Dr. Dirk De Ridder, Professor of Neurosurgery
Dunedin School of Medicine, University of Otago, New Zealand
Dr. Dirk De Ridder and his research team have undertaken studies on tinnitus, chronic pain and depression, and are currently expanding their research to other brain disorders. His research interests are centered on a Darwinian predictive brain model with Bayesian updating to adapt to an ever changing environment. This model is the basis to understand common pathophysiological mechanisms clustering groups of pathologies, such as thalamocortical dysrhythmias (pain, tinnitus, epilepsy, depression, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia) or obsessive compulsive spectrum disorder (such as addiction, OCD, or eating disorders).
